OVERVIEW
RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
The US Geological Survey (USGS) completes flood documentation studies for flood events that include any data collected describing the extent and height of flooding, such as high water marks, through methods such as surveying and instrumentation. High water marks are points that represent the maximum rise of a body of water in a specific location. The USGS collects standardized marks to facilitate inundation planning. These documentation study data are published online and facilitate quality assurance for hydraulic modeling and flood insurance activities. For some events, the USGS develops event inundation maps, including depth grids, which is publishes in reports online.
